10 Gym Exercises Without Running

Running is a great proponent of cardiovascular exercise, that offers a wide range of benefits on your health and heart. It also has a great effect on well-being and feeling with your endorphins which reduces stress and anxiety. However running can have certain effects on joints in your body particularly on the knee, foot, ankle and hips. As good as it is there is a better way to trade off but that depends on your condition of course. 

There are 2 major ways to burn, Cardio or Fat Burn. Fat Burn is dependant on high intensity training and resistance. Cardio is more low to mid-level intensity heart rate that fuels your muscles. However it depends on what your hoping to target and achieve.

Here are 10 exercises that gives you plenty of cardio but also gives you core strength. If you are looking to fat-burn, rather than just performing cardio, these might be suitable for you:         

Skipping

Skipping is a great way to burn fat, using body strength and resistance in your stomach, legs, arms and of course your heart. Try to tense your stomach whilst skipping for added strength.

Rowing

Rowing is an excellent exercise for core elements: Stomach, Legs, Arms (Biceps), Shoulder and Back. Learn towards the the throw of the row and you will get maximum results. Rowing is naturally good for a reasonable level of mid- to high intensity training. Great resistance and fat burning results.

Cycling or Spinning

Another great way to shape up. Spinning is the high intensity form of exercise, it works your legs, stomach, lower back and arms if peddling off seat. Cycling is also great. There is an option of using your arms so it's a good balance of cardio exercise.

Kettlebells

Kettlebells is a great way to exercise, there is a number of core elements, holding the weight and squatting, shoulder press by lifting the bell from the floor, and also kettle bell swing which is very common holding the bell and swinging fore and aft clenching your stomach muscles. You can have a raft of exercises using your core.

Steps

Steps is a great way to burn whilst not running, it burns fat most of your body because your heart rate tends to run at a mid-high intensity rate pretty quickly. It works your stomach, arms, legs heart but the great thing is you literally sweat all over your body. Good training for your core.

Power Walking Uphill

Power walking uphill is a very good exercise especially if you have a back pack of weights whist walking. If your fat burning, try walking as fast as you possibly can without hindering yourself. Or if you can walk moderately but for an extensive period of time, your heart rate will still pound so it's a win win in this exercise. Great for fat burn and cardio in one by walking fast and moderate intervals.

Boxing or Shadow Boxing

Boxing is another great way to burn. The great thing is that your don't have to punch as hard because your not focussing on strength, more on the cardio element to burn. So if you weave and bob, use your arms punching the bag, that will accelerate your heart rate and work your core on legs, arms, stomach, back and of course heart.

Calisthenics

Calisthencies is a great way to train with no weights, and is good for bodyweight movements to get you stronger and improve your cardio fitness. The fantastic thing is that you can perform in and out of the gym. You can scale your routine as and when you need to. You can try the upper and lower body of your exercises for muscle improvements.

Squats

Squats is a great for core elements, legs stomach, torso, arms. Try squatting and jumping up and squat down that accelerates your heart rate and core performance.

Rope Swing

Rope Swing is an excellent exercise because your using your arms which tones your muscles, squatting is beneficial to tense your stomach. The more intense you swing the more your heart pounds so it's a regulated measure of exercise.
